Here, it refers to, back-stabbing your other friends, to tell this particular friend about this secret your other friends told you. Which you were not supposed to tell.

And by doing that, you're rated as a better friend by that person, but most probably when the other friend finds out you get hated.

And I know two people who share this horrible tell-me-someone-else's-secret-and-you'll-become-a-better-friend-to-me system.
